Same code.

lifespan.

SyncClip and ShareNotes overlap more than most comparisons admit: both are free browser clipboards, both pair devices with a 6-character code, both sync over WebSockets, and neither wants an account. The differences are narrower and more practical — what happens to the text after you have moved it, and how much of the copying is done for you.

How does ShareNotes compare to SyncClip?

Both tools are free browser clipboards with no account: each pairs devices with a 6-character code, can share by URL or QR code, and syncs text in real time over WebSockets. SyncClip can push and read your system clipboard automatically, and purges sessions after 24 hours. ShareNotes keeps a note for 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days (30 via the API), gives shared notes memorable word-based URLs like blue-fox-42, renders Markdown with syntax highlighting, and has a public REST API with no key. Both offer burn-after-reading and a way to lock who can write.

III

Where SyncClip is the better pick.

Three honest reasons to choose SyncClip instead.

  • You want the copying done for you. SyncClip can auto-push and auto-read your system clipboard, so text you copy on one device can land on the other without pasting. ShareNotes does not touch your system clipboard; you paste in and press copy out.
  • You want everything gone within a day, guaranteed. SyncClip purges every session after 24 hours, and its burn-after-reading mode wipes data 5 seconds after it is read. ShareNotes lets notes live up to 7 days unless you choose a shorter timer or view-once.
  • You only ever move text between your own devices. If you never send a note to anyone else, ShareNotes' memorable links, Markdown rendering and API are features you will not use, and SyncClip's clipboard automation is the more useful extra.

For moving a line of text between your own phone and laptop, either tool works and SyncClip automates more of it. For sharing a note with someone, keeping it for a few days, or creating it from a script, ShareNotes does more.

IV

Answers, briefly.

How is ShareNotes different from SyncClip?

Both are free browser clipboards with no account, both pair devices with a 6-character code, and both sync in real time over WebSockets. SyncClip can push and read your system clipboard automatically and purges sessions after 24 hours. ShareNotes keeps notes for up to 7 days (30 via the API), gives shared notes memorable word-based URLs, renders Markdown and code, and has a public REST API with no key.

Does ShareNotes copy to my clipboard automatically?

No. ShareNotes does not read or write your system clipboard on its own; you paste text in and use the copy button on the other device. SyncClip offers automatic clipboard push and read, which is its clearest advantage.

How do I join a clipboard room on ShareNotes?

Open sharenotes.dev/clip on both devices and enter the same 6-character code. Codes skip look-alike characters such as i, l, 1, o and 0 so they are easy to type on a phone. The room is a normal ShareNotes note, so it syncs live.

How long does text last?

On ShareNotes you choose 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days, or up to 30 days via the API, and a note is removed 7 days after it was last opened. SyncClip sessions expire automatically after 24 hours.

Do both have burn after reading?

Yes. SyncClip wipes data 5 seconds after it is read. ShareNotes view-once notes are destroyed on first open and are not consumed by Slack, iMessage or other link-preview bots.

Is a clipboard room private?

A room is unlisted, not private: anyone who types the same code joins it. For anything sensitive, use a longer shared link with a PIN or a view-once note. ShareNotes notes are not end-to-end encrypted.

Same six characters.
More room to keep it.
