Your assistant writes it.
You get the link.
ShareNotes runs a free remote MCP server. Connect it to Claude, or any assistant that supports remote MCP, and it can publish text as a short, readable link like sharenotes.dev/quiet-river-7 — or read a ShareNotes link you paste in. No key, no account.
Is there an MCP server for sharing text by link?
ShareNotes has a free remote MCP server at https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp. It gives an AI assistant two tools: create_note, which publishes text as a short, human-readable ShareNotes link with an expiry of 1 hour to 30 days (7 days by default) and optional delete-after-reading, and read_note, which reads a ShareNotes link. It needs no API key or account. Notes are not end-to-end encrypted, so it is not for secrets.
Text that needs to leave the chat.
Get it onto your phone.
"Put that recipe in a note." Open the short link on your phone — or scan the QR code on the note page. No emailing yourself.
Send it to someone not in the chat.
A summary for a colleague, instructions for a relative, a draft for a client. They open a link; they don't need an account, or the assistant.
Reports and logs as a link.
An agent finishing a long task can post its report or a log excerpt as a note and give you one link, instead of a wall of text in the terminal.
Gone when it's done.
Ask for a 1-hour note, or one that deletes itself the first time it's opened — for anything that should not hang around. (Still not for passwords.)
Paste a link, ask about it.
Someone sent you a ShareNotes link? Give it to the assistant and ask it to summarise, translate or check it. It reads the note with read_note.
Keep editing in the browser.
It's an ordinary ShareNotes note: open the link, edit it, and everyone viewing sees the changes live — how sync works.
One URL. That's the setup.
A remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP. No key, no OAuth, no account.
Add https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp as a custom connector at claude.ai/customize/connectors.
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP takes the same URL. Then just ask: "Put this in a ShareNotes note and give me the link."
Create a note. Read a note.
Returns the link and the expiry time.
Returns the note's title and text — notes written in the web editor come back as HTML. It does not open PIN-protected or delete-after-reading notes.
What it won't do.
Not for passwords.
Anyone with the link can open a note, and notes are stored on our server, not end-to-end encrypted. The tool tells the assistant never to use it for secrets.
It won't burn your notes.
read_note refuses PIN-protected and delete-after-reading notes. An assistant shouldn't be able to destroy a one-time note meant for a person — or be talked into it.
500 a day, shared.
All assistants together can create 500 notes a day. If that runs out, the tool says so and resets the next day. Text you send also passes through your assistant's own service.
How we store notes and what we log is in the privacy policy. Prefer HTTP? There's a plain REST API too.
Answers, briefly.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. Connecting the ShareNotes MCP server gives an assistant two tools: one that publishes text as a ShareNotes link, and one that reads a ShareNotes link.
Does it cost anything, or need an account or API key?
No. The MCP server is free and needs no account and no key. Notes created through AI assistants share a limit of 500 per day across all assistants.
Which assistants can use it?
Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP. In Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http sharenotes https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp. In claude.ai, add https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp as a custom connector at claude.ai/customize/connectors.
Can an assistant read my PIN-protected or delete-after-reading notes?
No. The read tool refuses PIN-protected notes and delete-after-reading notes. Opening a delete-after-reading note destroys it, so only a person should do that, in a browser.
How long do notes created by an assistant last?
7 days by default. The assistant can choose 1 hour, 24 hours or 30 days instead, or make the note delete itself after the first read.
Is it safe for passwords or API keys?
No. Anyone with the link can open the note, and notes are stored on our server, not end-to-end encrypted. The tool description tells the assistant never to use it for secrets.
Can I edit a note an assistant created?
Yes. It is an ordinary ShareNotes note: open the link in a browser and edit it, and everyone viewing sees the changes live. Like any note without a PIN, anyone with the link can edit it.
